What’s a moment when you realized you were officially an adult?
Oh boy!
I think for me – it was the moment I said “I do!”….. when I turned 17.
I’m not proud of this at all, but I got pregnant when I was 17. I had my oldest daughter a few months after I turned 18.
My mom absolutely refused to let me have a baby outside of marriage, so she went straight to my – (now ex-husbands) – parents house at the time, and told them she thinks we need to get married, and she’d appreciate it if they would back her up on it.
To be fair – I already had an engagement ring on my finger before finding out I was pregnant.
The guy I was dating at the time – worked his ass off and he was a good dude when I met him and started dating him.
My parents loved him. His parents were always super kind and loving with me, and we had been together for a while before I got pregnant.
We knew we wanted to get married back then, but we didn’t want to get married by city hall. He dreamed of a big church wedding with all of his friends and family, and he already knew who his best man was going to be, and I had always wanted a beautiful Christmas wedding, and he agreed to it.
That’s not how it went down though.
In January of 2000 – many months before I was due – my parents and his parents took us down to city hall – and we were married.
The moment it was finalized – and I was about to have a kid of my own – was the moment I realized I was officially an adult. (Kind of. Sort of.).
Life hasn’t slowed down since.
I’ve been adulting ever since.
He and I divorced in 2013, and – the moment I felt like I officially became an adult – has never left my mind.
That’s why I have always wanted better for my kids.
Go to school. Get your education. Finish high school. Go on to either get certified in something or get a degree in something, but do something with your life!
Become something in life and live your best life while you’re still young.
My kids know I won’t allow them to be out in the streets acting stupid, having babies young, or wasting their lives.
Get jobs after high school. Work hard. Save money.
I’ve tried my best to teach them right and I hope they follow my advice. So far, I think I’m doing a pretty damn good job.
My kids love money.
My older daughter is gone, but my older son works his ass off and buys his own things. My youngest daughter just finished high school and she’s looking for her first job and will be attending EMS classes soon, and my little dude – well, he still depends on me of course. 😁
Still, they’ve done well in school. My older son hasn’t gotten anyone pregnant, my daughter hasn’t gotten pregnant and I’m proud of that.
I’m so proud of that!
I don’t want them to be anything like I was when I was younger – because I was a little rebel. I was a little brat. I was always doing something stupid and getting into trouble or nonsense, and driving my mother crazy.
That’s why I think I’m so strict with my kids and so tough on them.
I want them to be way better than me – when I was their age(s). So far – they are. ❤️
Now that this WP writing prompt for today is answered….
I’m praying I get my car back this week.
There were so many things wrong with it when it went into the shop, and I thought I’d get it back this past week when everything was finally fixed.
I kept saying my PCP valve busted, but I just found out it’s called the PCV, and I couldn’t stop laughing at my mixup.
PCP – PCV …. It still left me without my car for weeks now. 🙄
Being a Volkswagen…nobody in Minnesota wanted to touch it because they’re “complicated” – as I was told and any shops I’ve been to …couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it.
I was grateful when I finally found a shop that has a mechanic that deals with Volkswagens and knows what he’s doing, but thousands of dollars and weeks later – it’s still sitting in the shop.
I was told the PCV needed fixing, back and front brakes (which I already knew), but I had the back brakes done by some young guy who worked at a parts store and said he knew how to change them. Turns out the mechanic said (the parts store guy) butchered them, and the mechanic had to redo all of it.
The mechanic said legally – he couldn’t let me leave the shop with the back brakes the way they were, so that was thrown into the repair bill.
My oil line (or whatever the hell it was with the oil) needed to be replaced, and I had a major oil leak.
There were just so many different problems that no other shop this car had been to – caught, so I’m grateful for the mechanic who has my car now and knows what he’s doing.
So, he called me Thursday when my car was supposed to be ready, and I was a little excited.
He asked how I was doing, and I told him I was good – thinking I’m going to go out to Minnesota and get my car – with my older son.
The mechanic then says, “I have bad news, but I also have some good news”.
He tells me that he got everything changed, parts replaced, front and back brakes done, lines put in, oil leak stopped, oil change done, and so many other things it needed, and as soon as he put everything back together and started the car – it ran for about 60 seconds …………
And the timing jumped!
He talked about the tensioner, and another $2,500 or so, but the good news?
“Once that gets fixed – you’re golden! The car will run beautifully with all these new parts and it should give you another few years”. That’s what he told me.

That’s where I’m at right now.
Life has kicked my ass the last few weeks, and I’ve thought so many times, “I can’t do this anymore”… But, as a mom – we don’t get to just give up!
No matter what life throws a moms way – we have to keep going and figure it out. 🙂↔️
It is what it is.
Love ya my loves.
